Hatred: Brutal Killing Spree Simulator

Want to get noticed in a crowded gaming market? Develop a sociopathic game where the only objective is random murder, say the point of it is “something that could give the player a pure, gaming pleasure”, then add a smiley face at the end.

That’s exactly what Poland’s Destructive Creations did, and they’ve released a statement crowing over the amount of publicity generated by their brutal trailer for 2015’s Hatred.

The clip begins with a tall man with greasy hair in a dimly lit room complaining about running out of shampoo... not. The world hating loser is packing knives, grenades and clips of ammo into his coat while mumbling phrases aimed at alienated 14 year old 4chan loving emos who haven't started shaving yet.

“I just f**kin’ hate this world. And the human worms feasting on its carcass. My whole life is just cold, bitter hatred. And I always wanted to die violently. This is the time of vengeance and no life is worth saving. And I will put in the grave as many as I can,” says the character.

After adding he’s going to take down as many innocents as possible, he walks out the door and starts committing the sort of mass murders that happen in America every few weeks. There are cops being stabbed on the floor, civilians having their heads blown off, one woman getting her head blasted off while lying on the ground, even though she begged for mercy.

Open world games like GTA allow killing sprees, but this is the first that has no point other than a revenge spree and it’s possible it’ll be censored in Australia.

The mainstream video game industry quickly began washing its hands of the project. Epic Games, whose Unreal Engine 4 game creation tool was used to make the title, ordered the company to remove its trademarked logo from all marketing.

And while the company’s deliberately stirring up a reaction (“let the haters hate”), one critic was so pissed off he called them neo-Nazis. The developer shot back, saying Hatred isn't a racist game because “the antagonist is killing everyone equally, race doesn't matter.”

Oh. Well OK.
